Hello,
After being asked about the recent Manowar concert countless times, I decided to write this blog post to give you all a collective response.Expectations right from the start: no, I didn’t meet the band.
I’ve heard from multiple sources that they can be difficult to approach, and honestly, I didn’t feel the need to try. I’m not a huge Manowar fan anyway. Their lyrics feel too superficial and sexist for my taste, so I can’t really get into them. If I had to choose, I’d much rather listen to Iron Maiden. In fact, I attended this concert last minute thanks to a friend who offered me a ticket.

But overall, the concert itself was pretty good. There were definitely some funny moments. Before the show started, they played a very cheesy Joey DeMaio video. Think of the type of over-the-top effects you’d expect from a low-budget, early 2000s action movie. At least this time, they didn’t forget the effects! Afterward, we were treated to some epic bass solos by Joey himself.

My friends and I all had the same question: “How are these guys ever going to retire? They’re so good!” We started joking about how bands like Scorpions and Teoman announce their retirement, only to keep coming back. Maybe Manowar will do the same?
We jumped around, headbanged, and as we noticed how good the new guitarist was, everything was going great. Then, just as the concert was nearing the end, Joey DeMaio suddenly said something like, “I have a sensational announcement to make for the first time right here!”
He started speaking, and before I knew it, I felt like I was at a political rally. All I could think was, “Yeah, it’s definitely time for these guys to retire.” Minutes earlier, we were wondering how they’d ever stop, and suddenly, he’s on stage delivering a dramatic speech like someone trying to start a revolution. The vibe in the crowd shifted quickly.
Suddenly, a Turkish flag appeared on the screen, and at that point, I half-expected them to close with something like “The Star-Spangled Banner” at an American concert. Luckily, that didn’t happen.
Honestly, this was probably one of the weirdest concerts I’ve ever been to.

The best part of the concert? The families who brought their kids and even babies. It was adorable seeing these little ones in metal band t-shirts, making devil horns with their tiny hands. Seriously, those parents deserve a round of applause! What a cute sight.

And huge credit to the venue for hosting such a well-organized event. The toilets were spotless and always had toilet paper and soap. The staff working that night were so friendly and helpful, keeping everything clean despite the crowd. Big thanks to them!
So, that was my experience in a nutshell. It may have been a bit quirky, but that’s how I saw it. It had been a long time since I’d been to a metal concert, and I realized how much I’d missed it.
Thanks again to Erdem Çapar for the ticket, and thank you for reading!
A.
